Manny Mencía, Enterprise Florida SVP to lead national network of state trade agencies

Manny Mencía is the first Floridian to serve as SIDO president

ORLANDO, FL (May 11, 2010) – The State International Development Organization (SIDO) has elected its 2010-11 president: Manny Mencía, Enterprise Florida’s senior vice president who heads its International Trade & Business Development division. He’s the first Floridian to hold the post since SIDO’s establishment in 2000.

“SIDO is very fortunate to have someone of Manny Mencía's caliber to take over leadership of the organization,” said its executive director, Sasha Sutcliffe-Stephenson. “His wealth of experience and passion are well-suited to support states' efforts to emerge from the economic downturn, enhance economic development, and expand international trade portfolios.”

John Adams, Enterprise Florida’s president and CEO, acknowledged Mencía’s new role as a career milestone resulting from his years of hard work and dedication to international trade. “What an honor and opportunity for Florida, bringing the state more positive visibility both nationally and worldwide,” Adams said.

A nonprofit and affiliate of the Council of State Governments, SIDO is an alliance of state trade development organizations engaged in international trade promotion. It’s a venue through which trade development professionals share best practices, access resources and learn to fine-tune professional skills.

“We’re also proponents for trade development positions that can enable American businesses to remain globally competitive,” added Mencía while emphasizing the advantages of Enterprise Florida’s involvement. “SIDO provides an opportunity for networking with colleagues nationwide and learning firsthand about new and prospective trade initiatives.”

SIDO also serves as an advocacy forum for states to collaborate on federal issues of common interest.
